Scott Ellis McCurry, the son of Keith Ellis "Bud" and Lois Mae (Packard) McCurry, was born July 17, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Renwick and attended Boone Valley schools.
On February 4, 1966, Scott was united in marriage with Ellen Roseland at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Renwick until moving to Eagle Grove in 1970.
Scott was The Professional Truck Driver. He started his career at the age of 15, driving a milk truck for the creamery and then in 1969, he continued his career with Umthun Trucking and then Decker Trucking, retiring in 2009.
Scott was a member of UTEA, serving as President, Vice President and Chairman. He was also a member of the Oakdale Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in Renwick.
Scott enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all, the time he spent in his "Shop" which he built in 1989. He would work on cars, trucks, mowers, etc… – Scott could fix whatever needed fixing and of course, relished the time with family, friends and visitors that would stop by.
Scott died on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith in 2001; mother, Lois in 2003; brother-in-law, Richard Mrazek in 1995 and nephew, Shawn Frank in 1994.
Survivors include his wife Ellen McCurry of Eagle Grove; son, David McCurry of Eagle Grove; daughter, DeAnn Pitman and husband Adam of Roland; five grandchildren: Tana McCurry, Tori McCurry and Tate McCurry of Algona and Jaeda Pitman and Jakob Pitman of Roland; five sisters: Diane Mrazek of Eagle Grove, Donna Frank and husband Don of Fridley, MN, Darlene "Toby" Solis of Eagle Grove, Deb Smith and husband Mike of Brooklyn Park, MN and Darcy Sisson and husband Kenny of Eagle Grove and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
