Frank H. Tanner, Jr., the son of Frank E. and Katherine (Wooster) Tanner, Sr., was born August 15, 1927, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School. Frank served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kenneth Whiting and USS Badoeng Strait from November 14, 1945 to November 15, 1947.
On November 26, 1950, Frank was united in marriage with Vernice L. (Weiss) Kuehnast at Humboldt. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1954.
Frank worked as a switchman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1991.
Frank was a member of the Missouri Synod, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and served on the church council. He also umpired numerous baseball games over the years as a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Frank passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in
Ames, at the age of 84 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vernice on
January 21, 2005; brother, James Tanner and sisters, Dorothy Winter and Margaret
Martin.
Survivors include his six children: Judy Tanner of West Liberty, Ron Tanner and wife Sharon of Eagle Grove, Barb Tanner of Clarion, Bill Tanner and wife Cindy of Miami, OK, Tom Tanner and wife Luanne of Webster City and Chris Tanner and wife Stefani of Johnston; 8 grandchildren: Jessica, Jeremy, Cole, Brittany, Matthew, Jordan and Hanna Tanner and Brandy Hennigar; 3 great-grandchildren: Greyson and Trey Tanner and Dakota Parker; brother, Fred Tanner and wife Lucille of Hartley; sister, Marna Juvenal of Fort Dodge and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 13, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mark Peterson of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
