Goldfield - Alice G. Vest
Alice Grace Vest, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Peterson) Harvey, was born on the family farm west of Goldfield in Humboldt County, Iowa, on November 7, 1913. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending rural school Lake No.7 for eight years and graduating from Goldfield High School in 1931.
Alice was active in the Goldfield Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was also active in 4-H and the Evergreen Sporting Association.
On November 27, 1937, Alice was united in marriage with Dr. Don Vest in Norfolk, NE. They lived in Gainesville, FL, Fort Moultrie, SC and Chapin, IL. In August of 1941, Dr. Vest was called into active military service and they lived in Chicago, IL, West Pointe, NY, Stewart Field near Newburgh, NY, Kansas City, MO and the Panama Canal.
The couple returned to the states in January of 1946 and settled in Alexander, IA, where they lived for 18 years and moved back to Goldfield in 1964.
Alice was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield, the Presbyterian Women, American Legion Auxiliary and Oakridge Recreation.
Alice passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 97 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents; an infant sister, Charlotte Harvey; brothers, Howard and Merle Harvey and sister, Helen Bjorklund.
Survivors include her sister, Marvyl Reichter of Goldfield; sister-in-law, Lois Saccento of Goldfield; 11 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 11, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Private family burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
