Paul Forrest Slaikeu, the son of Forrest and Dorothy (Hansen) Slaikeu, was born on August 16, 1933, in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth – graduating from Eagle Grove High School.

Paul served in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving from January of 1954 until January of 1956.

On December 7, 1973, Paul married Fern (Stiltz) Hanson in Goldfield. The couple made their home in Goldfield and Paul worked for the Wright County Road Department, until he retired in 1999. After retirement, Paul enjoyed fishing, wood working and golfing.

Paul was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, serving as an Elder and Trustee. He was also a member of the Goldfield City Council, Past Master of Fountain City Lodge, Past Commander of Goldfield American Legion Post #370 and served on the Goldfield Fire Department since 1976.

Paul passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the age of 78 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Brenda Arne.

Survivors include his wife, Fern Slaikeu of Goldfield; children: Jeff Slaikeu of Goldfield, Debbie Slaikeu of Des Moines, Mike Hanson (Valerie) of Eagle Grove and Daryl Hanson (Kellie) of Duncombe; grandchildren: Crystal Paterson (Lenny), Luke Hanson (Emily), Mitchell Arne (Claire), Jaclynn Hanson, Courtney Hanson and Jordan Hanson; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jacob and Dominik Paterson; sister, Sue Zweifel (Jerry) of Boise, ID and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Goldfield Presbyterian Church, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
