Tribute & Message From The Family

Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Kathy by adding your memories and photos.

Kathleen Anne (Gilligan) Jewell, the daughter of James and Helen (Loftus) Gilligan, was born on June 29, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a graduate of LuVerne High School in 1964. Following high school, Kathy worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Mason City. There she met David Roberts and they were united in marriage on June 22, 1965, in Livermore. To this union, two sons were born, David Victor and Mark Alan. They later divorced.

Kathy and the boys moved to the Eagle Grove area and she met her lifelong partner, Jim Jewell and they were united in marriage on May 1, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. To this union, a daughter was born, Patricia Lynn.

Kathy and Jim made their home in Goldfield, where she worked at the Goldfield Cheese Mart and later worked for Dodger Manufacturing in Eagle Grove. She also worked in the Clarion-Goldfield High School cafeteria and Geno's Liquor in Eagle Grove.

Kathy and Jim enjoyed spending time gardening, camping, fishing, grilling on the deck, taking short casino trips but most precious, was their time spent with family. They loved being surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

Kathy passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Hospice in Mason City, at the age of 70 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Art and Ila Jewell; two nephews; brother, Pat Gilligan and husband, Jim Jewell.

Kathy is survived by her children: Vic Jewell (Maria) of Olathe, KS, Mark Jewell of Goldfield and Tricia Wilderman (Greg) of Mason City; five grandchildren: Kayla, Madison and Paige Jewell and Aaron and Emily Hardcastle; siblings: Regina Madison (Fred), Mike Gilligan (Anne), Mary Armstrong (Denny), Paul Gilligan (Jan) and Teresa Baer (Jim); sisters-in-law, Donna Jewell and Nancy Willett and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Per Kathy's request, she has been cremated and the family will have a private memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Following their service the family extends and open invitation to everyone to join them for lunch and sharing at the Goldfield United Methodist Church at 12:00 p.m.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I was in Mexico when I got the news of Kathy's passing. I was heartbroken. We had a special friendship from back in our Dodgers days. She would make me the BEST bread n butter pickles and in the recent years even sent me packages out to Chicago. I'm glad I got to witness and hear her stories of how she LIVED. I Love that special gal and will miss her. I didn't know she was in poor health, I wish I could talk to her just one more time. :( Thinking of you kids, she loved you so.
