I was so sorry to hear of Zip's passing. He was the last of the great people from Eagle Grove. I'm so glad my husband and I had the chance to spend some time with him at the Thor 125th and at Aunt Dorothy's (Severson) funeral. I still remember Dad and Zip playing baseball. "Zip" called time out and took the bat from the Boone Valley hitter and took a couple of steps towards the mound slapping the bat in his hand and asking the pitcher if he had a problem. The pitcher backed up answering "no sir." After the game I asked "Zip" if that was the appropriate way to handle a disgruntled pitcher. His response was: "May not be appropriate, but it is **** affective." My personal sympathy to you all. I can tell you since I got the call about his death I have celebrated his life by remembering many of my fond memories about him.

I was very sadden to hear of Zip's passing. I can remember all the times our dad's umpired a ballgame together. Who can forget the time they were in Alonga and out ran the Tornado to get home.
